Lithium batteries are currently the most widely used type of battery, with their positive and negative electrode materials often combined with battery aluminum foil. Due to the problems of volume expansion and contraction during the charging and discharging process of lithium batteries, high requirements are placed on the strength and elongation of aluminum foil, for the following reasons:
1. Diffusion performance: Lithium ions repeatedly shuttle between the positive and negative electrode materials of the battery, requiring them to pass through the micropores of the aluminum foil. Therefore, the aluminum foil must have excellent diffusion performance to ensure the long life and high energy density of the battery.
2. Mechanical strength: During the charging and discharging cycle, the internal part of the battery will be subjected to significant mechanical stress, especially the contact part between the battery shell and the positive and negative electrodes. It is necessary to transmit stress and support the internal structure of the battery through aluminum foil, so the mechanical strength of aluminum foil is crucial.
3. Ductility: Lithium batteries undergo significant volume changes during the charging and discharging cycles, and aluminum foil needs to have good ductility to adapt to these changes. Otherwise, problems such as aluminum foil rupture and fracture can easily occur, leading to the loss of battery function.
